I know we haven’t quite squeezed Thanksgiving out of the calendar yet. Sorry about the rush. But I have to fire this sentiment to you. It’s a game changer.
Yeah, it’s an embodiment of Christmas. Well, too bad. I don’t like to rush this stuff any more than you do, but it’s important. To do this right, you have to shore up your spirit while we’re in November. It may take that long to focus from your heart.
You’re writing Christmas letters.
For most of us, this can take a while. You’ve got a lot of people to cover, and the feelings sometimes take a while to come forth. But to say that this is a “meaningful gesture” is an understatement. You’re putting your whole heart out there. Fully and without reservation. Don’t worry about their reaction. Don’t give a second thought to their response. You write your feelings, your sentiment, and your LOVE in this letter for once in your life. No holding back, no qualification, no nothing.
Take a deep breath, go for a walk, whatever it takes to bring your heart to the page. It may feel that you’re way the hell over the top with your sentiment. It doesn’t matter. And, for what it’s worth, you’re not. So stop sweating this detail. Just go with me here. This expression is absolutely critical on your lives’s path.
You have to do this at least once in your lifetime. And now might be the time.
From your heart, to your fingers, to the keyboard, write everything that includes your love, your appreciation and your respect for the person you’re composing this letter. Lay it all out there. And don’t edit it. Just fire ups your fingers. Let them be the messenger of your love. Put together four, maybe five hundred words on a sheet of paper, and stuff that mother inside your Christmas card. Address it, stamp it, and mail it.
Just get this thing done. It’s time. Your heart is busting with lifetimes sentiment and love that have yet to be expressed. Don’t give me that “oh, it’s too “over the top” stuff. Particularly during the holidays, There is No. Such. Thing. Trust me on this. Your sentiment that you’ve held in check all these years has been waiting to bust open.
You are all closeted lovers that are itching to express yourself to the umpteenth degree. WE ALL ARE!!! Fear keeps this in check. Worrying about how this is going to be received holds it back.
For God’s sake people, this is an opportunity to put your heart, ALL of your heart, into your message of love, togetherness, and faith…maybe for the first time in you life.
Maybe, for some of you, for the last.
This time of year embodies the loving expression. The feelings of love and friendship have a launching pad within this holiday. Christmas wraps itself in the sentiment of friendship, brotherhood, generosity, kindness, and faith.
You have a chance to tell somebody how you love them, how important they are to you, and how they occupy your thoughts. You have a chance to build a bridge that has been burned, offer healing to an old wound.
We can list the people that have pissed us off. We can bring to mind every single person that has let us down, disappointed us, or just dropped out of sight for some unknown reason.
We have lost track of people. Through the last five, ten even twenty or thirty years, we have moved away from those contacts, established others, and stepped along the paths of our lives. We have, for whatever reason, let go of our friends in the ’80’s, 90’s and so forth and placed our steps into a different existence.
I tell people that I love them, and that they mean something to me, largely because they do, and I want them to know it. I believe in this quote by Leo Buscaglia that you’ve seen on these pages before: “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind world a listening ear, an honest compliment or the smallest act of caring, all which have the potential to turn a life around.”
Try to express this. Christmas is the most appropriate time of the year to let loose your love on everybody you know.
I believe we are in this world to bring people together. Love is that messenger. The holidays put the love in motion.
And the New Year offers love a new path to travel.
By entrusting us with your feelings, we help you take steps that you see necessary to begin and put forth the energy to make the needed change.
Now notice something: Trust in a coach, mentor, or guide helps you see what's in front of you. We see a Coach for Your Heart a little like an emotional Sherpa, somebody that helps you climb your mountain by pointing out where to best step along the path.
